How to Make Homemade Facial Masks

By Mary Richardson , last updated December 5, 2011

Making a homemade facial mask is as easy as raiding your kitchen pantry for a few basic ingredients. Pamper yourself at home while saving money and avoiding chemicals often used in professional facials. When giving yourself a homemade facial, be sure your skin is clean and dry before application. Also have a mild cleanser on hand to rinse and a soft towel to pat dry. Avoid scrubbing the ingredients off your face harshly, but gently remove them. Here are great useful recipes for homemade facial masks treating a variety of skin issues.

Honey Oatmeal Facial Mask

If you've got dry sallow looking skin, wake it up with this rejuvenating mask. You'll need 2 tbsp of honey, 2 tbsp of raw ground oatmeal, and 1 tbsp of plain unflavored yogurt. The honey moisturizes your skin while the oatmeal and yogurt soothes it. Mix the oatmeal and yogurt together to form a paste. Add a few drops of honey and combine. Apply to your face for 5 to 15 minutes and rinse off with a mild cleanser.

Vitamin C Facial

For sensitive skin that needs a perk up, blast it with nutrients with this special mask made from orange juice. You'll need 2 tbsp of plain yogurt, 2 tsp of orange juice, and 1 tsp of sweet almond oil, which can be purchased at health food stores. Combine all ingredients and apply to your face for 20 minutes. Rinse off with a mild cleanser.

Egg Honey and Cornmeal Mask

Say goodbye to oily skin with this refreshing mask. Combine 1 tsp of crystallized honey, 1 egg yolk, and 1 tbs of cornmeal, which will act as a mild exfoliant. The egg yolk is great for tightening skin, but make sure no egg shell fall into the mixture. The result could be tiny scratches and irritation! Apply this mask to your face for 25 minutes, and rinse off with a mild cleanser.

Dr. Oz Botox For Wrinkles Mask

This facial replicates the effect of botox on wrinkles without an expensive trip to a dermatologist! Combine 1/2 smashed ripe banana with 1/4 cup plain yogurt. Mix in 1 tsp of honey and apply to your face for 15 minutes. These ingredients will leave your skin plumped and nourished without an injection.

Aspirin Facial

If you've got red blotches or acne, try this homemade facial using aspirin, which helps alleviate redness and reduce swelling. You'll need 1 aspirin, some honey, and some unscented facial moisturizer. Scented moisturizers often have fragrance that can irritate skin, so it's best to avoid it. Crush the aspirin in a bowl and add a heaping spoonful each of honey and moisturizer. The mixture will form a paste that you can apply to targeted sections of your face.

Red Wine Facial

Don't let leftover wine go to waste! Create an anti-oxidant rich homemade facial using 4 to 5 tbsp of red wine, 1 cup of yogurt, and 2 tsp of honey. Mix all the ingredients and apply. The thin mixture will soak in after a few minutes. Rinse off and moisturize.
