How to Make Orange Creamsicles

By Stacy Copeland , last updated February 24, 2011

Orange creamsicles are a cool summer treat that bring back memories of the ice cream trucks of childhood; with this simple recipe, you’ll know how to make orange creamsicles for those days when the neighborhood ice cream truck doesn’t stop by.

Regular

1 pint vanilla ice cream

1 1/2 cups milk

1 can frozen orange juice

Equipment:

Mixing bowl

Plastic ice pop molds

12 craft sticks

Hand mixer

Spoon

Empty the pint of ice cream and pour the milk into the mixing bowl. Scoop out the whole 6 ounce can of thawed orange juice concentrate and add it to the bowl. Using an electric hand mixer, combine all the ingredients until they are smooth and creamy. Carefully pour the mixture into ice pop molds. You should be able to make six of them.

Allow your creamsicles to freeze for 30 minutes to one hour, then carefully insert a wooden stick into the middle of each one. Some ice pop molds come with their plastic sticks, which eliminates the need for craft sticks. Put the creamsicles back into the freezer and allow them to freeze for several hours or overnight before you eat them.

Low-Fat

If you want a lower-fat version, orange gelatin is the answer. The ingredients you'll need for healthier creamsicles are:

2 boxes Sugar Free Orange gelatin

2 packets artificial sweetener

3/4 cup fat-free evaporated milk

1 cup crushed ice

2 cups boiling water

Equipment:

Mixing bowl

Spoon

Add the boiling water to the gelatin according to the package directions. Combine the crushed ice with the hot gelatin to cool the mixture. Add the evaporated milk and sweetener. Pour the mixture into ice pop molds as instructed above and allow it to freeze for several hours.

After a few short hours, you’ll be ready to enjoy this great frozen treat.
