How to Soothe Blotchy Skin

Dealing with blotchy skin can be incredibly frustrating! The medical community has little information about how to soothe blotchy skin. Many of the remedies available are just trial and error until you find out what works for you. The right treatment method for you depends on what makes you the most comfortable and how much time you have to wait for your skin to clear up.

If you have blotchy skin, you have three main choices: reduce stress, use topical creams, and see your dermatologist.

Many forms of red, blotchy skin are hormonal reactions to stress. If you have blotchy skin without any discernible cause, such as new lotion or trip into a new environment, then you may want to try using stress-reduction techniques to see if your skin clears up. Take a few minutes each day to meditate, for example, to reduce your stress level. Be sure that you are eating well and drinking water, which may clear up some cases of blotchy skin.

Topical creams sometimes solve problems with blotchy skin. Over-the-counter lotions may be expensive, but they have extracts designed to help soothe skin. Red tea is a common ingredient in skin-soothing treatments. Red tea helps to reduce blotchiness by ridding the skin of toxins from pollution and also providing a protection after use against air pollutants. These creams may help remedy the cause of blotchy skin. Anti-inflammatory lotions, or even supplements, also may give relief of blotchiness.

For more severe forms of blotchy skin, especially if they include itching or drainage, visiting your dermatologist likely is the best choice. Dermatologists can test the skin cells to see if allergies or an identifiable inflammation are to blame for the blotchy skin. Dermatologists can treat many problems with prescription medications. In some cases, these medications relieve the symptoms only, but in others, they may cure the problem. Either way, the blotchy skin should be gone after using these treatments.
