The NCAA college basketball playoffs, more popularly referred to as "March Madness" is one of the major highlights of the annual sports season, and the perfect excuse to throw an awesome march madness party. To throw an amazing party, you should focus on three things: televising the games, setting up a sustainable food-spread and providing adequate entertainment. To do this, you will need: multiple televisions and/or computer screens, a big table to host your buffet spread, suitable seating for your guests, and a way for everyone to track and fill out the tournament brackets.
The basketball games are broadcast on network television during each day of the tournament. If you are not able to get access to all of the games on your TV(s), you can also watch them online. When you decide on the date for your party, be sure to review the game schedule for that day and try and feature as many games as possible between your television and computers in comfortable viewing areas.
Although bar food is always a safe way to go for an awesome March Madness spread, you could always impress your guests with a more sophisticated family-style menu. Oven-"fried" chicken, baked mac and cheese, chips and veggies and dips such as mushroom dip or steak sauce dip are all crowd-pleasing options that could pleasantly surprise your guests. For the host that does not like to cook, you can always make the party a potluck, or have a chili-cook off and provide the beer, chips and cornbread to accompany the entries.
One of the most fun activities involved with the March Madness tournament is filling out (and gambling on) the tournament brackets. Once the games, food and drink are squared away, be sure to provide brackets for your guests to fill out or update. You may also want to include a wall-sized bracket that you can update during the party.
