How to Throw a Fun Pocahontas Themed Birthday for Your Kids

By Melissa Willets , last updated March 9, 2011

Throwing a Pocahontas themed birthday party for your kids can be fun and easy. Pocahontas is a popular character from the Disney movie of the same name, based on the true story of an American Indian girl.

Pocahontas Loves Nature

Let Pocahontas' love of nature inspire the decor for the birthday party. Decorate the party table with real or fake leaves, corn husks, real or fake branches, sunflowers and your child's stuffed animals. Nature can also serve as inspiration for activities to do at the party. Allow children to make a craft with feathers. For preschool age children, show them how to glue feathers onto a paper plate or some construction paper. Older children can create a feather headband to wear for the party, or jewelry. For the headband, a strip of construction paper measured to fit each child's head will do. Use yarn for a bracelet or necklace, fastening feathers with a simple knot. Creating beaded jewelry could also be a fun activity for school age kids. You can purchase beads at a craft store.

American Indian Culture

You can buy a tee pee tent for kids to hang out in, or make one if you are inventive enough. A sheet cake can be adorned with ice cream cones to simulate tee pees. Create a trivia game for kids based on the Pocahontas movie. Perhaps allow kids to watch the movie first to brush up on their Pocahontas knowledge. Or, put together an outdoor treasure "hunt" with fun Pocahontas themed party favors that kids can take home like coloring pages and stickers.

The Pocahontas Sleepover Party

An outdoor camp-out is a great spin on the traditional slumber party for your Pocahontas theme. Set up tents, and equip each child with a flashlight. An adult supervised camp fire along with storytelling and snacks can end the night.
