So you’ve decided to throw a nineties-themed party? Well cowabunga! It was a decade of grunge rock, parachute pants, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It’s also a great inspiration for a rocking soiree.  You'll have to pick the right food, outfits, and entertainment, but when you're done, you're sure to have an excellent nineties-themed party.

First on everyone’s minds—the food! Try going with a variety of junk foods to get that ‘90s-grunge feel. Guests will love the opportunity to relive the decadent decade of the ‘90s through popular junk food like spray cheese and crackers or greasy burgers and pizza.

Encourage your guests to arrive in style, donning all the fashions of the time, such as backwards overalls, bright neon clothes, or even parachute pants for a hip look. Tie a large flannel shirt around your waist and wear oversized baggy jeans for a more grunge feel. Find accessories that seem to go with the times as well, such as a pager or beeper and an oversized cell phone.  Your guests will really get a kick out of it!

For a nostalgic feel, try playing a popular TV show or movie from the ‘90s on your home television during the party, with either the sound on or off, such as Saved By The Bell or 90210.  For other entertainment, offer your guests games from the era, like Pictionary or charades. You could also try making your own home trivia game using popular knowledge about the decade including politics, major news events, trends, celebrities and more.

Also, be sure to pick up a playlist that has all the top hits of the decade, from grunge rock to hip-hop. To be truly authentic, break out the CD player and your old collection and allow guests to browse them throughout your event, giving them the chance to play DJ Jazzy Jeff, if only for a few songs.

And there you have it. All the necessary essentials for a party that’s sure to be all that and a bag of chips.
