How to Wash Your Face

By Laura Richter , last updated July 31, 2011

Learning how to wash your face is easy when you use the right facial care products. Some women cleanse their face with body soap, making their skin feel dry and tight. Proper facial care will gently rinse pollution, dirt and oil from your skin. It will also moisturize your face and make you look younger. Proper skin care takes little time or effort to complete; however, it is tempting to skip out on the full routine. With self-discipline, you can have soft and dewy skin.

Skin Type
Your skin type will determine how to care for your face. The basic types are oily, dry, normal, sensitive and combination skin. Women usually know which category they belong in. Oily skin is greasy and prone to pimples. Dry skin has fine lines and flakes. Women with a combination type may have oily skin on their forehead, nose and chin areas and dry skin on their cheeks or vice versa. Sensitive skin is prone to breaking out in itchy, red splotches. Average skin care products may irritate your face. Normal skin can be dry or oily on occasion; however, it is mostly problem-free.
Products and Tools
After determining your type, look for products that will effectively cleanse and moisturize your skin. You will need makeup remover to take traces of mascara, foundation and other cosmetics off your face. Makeup remover cleansing wipes from companies such as Neutrogena make it easy to remove cosmetics. You will also need facial cleansers dedicated to your skin type. Consider purchasing a facial cleansing massager that will massage your skin.
Another part of cleansing your skin is exfoliation. Companies often refer to exfoliates as scrubs. These products have a gritty texture that will lift dead skin cells off your face. Along with a scrub, purchase a loofah or washcloth that you can use during your regime. All skin types need a moisturizer. Anyone with oily skin may think that it is best to skip applying this product to your face; however, moisturizer will help your skin retain water and build essential cell elements. If you tend to develop acne, consider purchasing products to deal with breakouts. Companies such as Pro-Activ have developed cleansers specifically for this skin condition. Men and women over age 30 may use anti-aging products and cleansers in their daily skin care routine.
While these tools may seem expensive, you will see a change in your skin after a short period. If you are new to skin care, you can save money by purchasing a skin care kit. Many companies bundle their products and tools, so you will have everything you need.
Washing Your Face
Use makeup remover to take off any cosmetics, especially around your eyes. Combine cleanser and warm water in your hands and massage your skin. A soapy lather should cover your face. Rinse the soap off and pat your face dry. Next, you can exfoliate your skin. Use your loofah or cloth to gently rub the exfoliator in a circular motion. Let the grit in the scrub do the work. Use warm water to rinse off the product. Dab moisturizer on your palm and use your fingertips to work the moisturizer into your face. With this simple skin care routine, your face will feel fabulous.
