Waxing your hard wood floors can be a controversial process. Some experts advise waxing your floors to instantly return their gloss and sheen. On the other hand, some experts advise you to avoid waxing your wood floors at all costs. Waxing can potentially ruin the finish on your floors, and you may need to spend a lot in order to sand down and re-stain your floors to return them to their original finish. If you decide to wax your wood floors, you will need to be careful of how much wax you use and what type of wax you use. With a little patience and care, you can easily wax the wood floors in your home. Depending on the size of your floor, it can take several hours for you to wax the area.
Before you wax your wood floors, you will need to prepare the area. Sweep or vacuum the wood floor to remove any surface dirt. With a damp mop, lightly mop your wood floors to remove any ground-in dirt or grease. Wait at least 20 minutes for your floor to completely dry. Your floor must be completely dry before you can start waxing.
With a clean mop, spread your wood floor wax in a thin layer across your wood floor. Make sure you use floor wax that is designed for use on wood surfaces. The floor wax should be used in limited amounts and applied evenly to the entire wood floor surface. You will know you are applying your wax too thick if you see dark streaks on your floor.
Let the first coat of wax dry completely for at least an hour. Apply a second, thin coat of wax. Let the second coat of wax dry completely for at least an hour. You have now waxed your wood floors.
