If you’re in charge of planning a bridal shower, let the theme or color scheme of the wedding inspire your ideas for the decorations and centerpieces. However, don’t try to upstage anything the bride and groom have planned for the wedding. For instance, if you know the couple is planning a casual backyard wedding, then follow suit and plan a casual shower. Let the bride, and not your party skills, be the star of the show.
Fresh produce is a versatile decoration that can be used for all types of bridal shower themes. For instance, if the shower is cooking or kitchen themed, seasonal or a celebration of the couple’s ethnic culture, you can use items from the grocery store or farmer’s market to make colorful centerpieces. Set a row of mixing bowls down the center of a rectangular table, or use one large bowl or a group of three smaller bowls in the center of a round table. For a kitchen or cooking themed shower, fill the bowls with tomatoes and bunches of curly parsley. You might also choose produce that’s the same as the wedding colors. Or, if the theme of the shower is seasonal, arrange bowl full of produce that is abundant during that season.
View the produce as purely decorative and mix items whose colors look striking together regardless of whether or not they would taste good together. For food centerpieces that celebrate a family’s heritage, arrange some of the most iconic cooking ingredients into bowls. For instance, a centerpiece made from artichokes, garlic and tomatoes would be well suited for bride who’s proud of her Italian roots while chilies, mangoes and corn would celebrate a couple with Latin heritage.
An attractive crock filled with new utensils like wooden spoons or wire whisks would be perfect for a bridal shower and serve as an extra gift to the bride. Tie wedding-colored ribbons around the crock to dress it up and enhance the theme. A collection of vintage tins make unusual flower vases and might fit well into several different shower themes. Choose them by color or product. For instance, if the bridal shower has a “tea party” theme, fill tea tins with small bouquets and scatter them across the table.
