Do you have glass jars around the house that look a little plain and need some decorating? Whether you use them to keep spare change or to store cooking ingredients, glass jars could always look a little more interesting. Here are some creative decorating ideas for your jars.
You can easily buy or collect beads and pieces of colored glass. With a little superglue or a hot glue gun, glue the beads and the glass in a creative pattern on the jar (note: children should be supervised when using a hot glue gun or superglue). The glue should dry very quickly and with very little mess. Any types of beads can be used, although it may be easier to use flatter ones that will stick more easily in place. You can use any colors in any sort of pattern or shape -- be creative! Flowers, stripes, ocean scenes, and stars are some options to start out with, but the possibilities are limitless.
If you don't want to go through the trouble of gluing things on your jars, painting them is another easy option. Many types of paint will stick to glass -- water-soluble paints such as tempera can work well, but will wash off if you get them too wet. Any non-water based paint will stick without washing off. You can buy special glass paint, or just use a common type like acrylic. That will work just as well, and can be peeled off once dry if the finished product is not to your satisfaction. As with the glass and bead decorations, what you paint is at your discretion. When using paint, you can make more detailed pictures and designs than with beads and glass. Try painting your favorite animal, or maybe go for a more detailed scene. You can do anything you have the patience to try.
