Find a Reputable Landscaping Consultant

Although dropping thousands of dollars to have a landscape architect come in and start rearranging your yard may not be worth it if you are on a budget, many professionals offer free or highly reduced consultations. This way you can get an idea of how best to landscape your yard, both from an aesthetic perspective and from a cost-effective one, without dropping too much money on the actual professional services.

Purchase Summer Items in the Winter, and Vice Versa

You might notice that seasonal items often get their prices cut by substantial amounts when they are not in season any more. Lumber, for example, is often sold at reduced prices in the winter, when people generally don't purchase it. Similarly, summer items, like garden fountains and fertilizer, will be on sale at this time. Consider purchasing winter items, like snow shovels and thick coats, during the spring or summer, when many of these items go on clearance sales.

Ask Around the Neighborhood

If you live in a neighborhood where many residents have yards and landscaping needs, you might be able to find gardening or yard care materials that a neighbor no longer needs. Since many people would rather get rid of landscaping materials then sell them, the chances that your neighbor would be willing to give you free materials is high.
