A steam vac is an incredibly handy device for cleaning your carpets and you can probably operating yours is easy even if you've lost the instructions. Your steam vacuum cleaner is really just as easy to use as a regular dry vacuum cleaner, only it will get your carpets much cleaner. Before you get started, however, you had better test the steam vac on a hidden corner of your carpet. You don't want to learn the hard way that your carpet can't be steam cleaned.
While your steam vac is unplugged, place the handle in the upright position and press the button to release the water tank. Twist the cap off the tank and use the cap as a measuring cup to determine how much cleaning solution you need. Pour the cleaning solution in the tank and fill it to the fill line with hot tap water. Put the cap back on the tank and replace the tank on the steam vac.
Vacuum your carpet with a regular vacuum before you steam vac. Move the furniture out of the room if you want to be really thorough. Flick the speed selector to LO if your carpet is only a little bit dirty or HI if it is really dirty. Plug your steam vac into an electrical outlet. Move to a far corner so that you don't end up having to walk on wet carpet.
Turn your vacuum cleaner on and squeeze the trigger to release some cleaning solution. Drag the steam vac slowly across your floor, squeezing the cleaning solution trigger as you drag. For each area of your carpet, go over the carpet once while releasing solution, then a second time without releasing solution. The steam vac should suck the cleaning solution back up, thus cleaning your carpet. Your carpet will dry faster if you finish by going over it with extra dry strokes.
