While many people view landscaping around trees to be a challenge, the fact is that it can actually allow you to flex your creativity and be a fun process. There are a variety of different ways to highlight trees when landscaping a yard, many of which are easy enough for beginners to take advantage of. By incorporating new techniques into your landscaping, you can improve the look and feel of your yard as your neighbors look on in envy.

Accent Lighting

Many people do not realize that landscaping highlights don’t need to fade away when the sun goes down. Learning how to incorporate proper lighting techniques into your landscaping can make a rather large difference when it comes to what your yard looks like at night. It is also an excellent way to highlight trees. There are a variety of different lighting techniques that can be used to turn trees into focal points, such as backlighting and uplighting. Lighting your landscape may seem as if it would be an expensive process, but purchasing and running spotlights is actually far less expensive than most people think. By playing around with different lighting techniques, you can make trees in your yard stand out in ways that they would never be able to otherwise.

Mulching

Using mulch is a great way to accentuate certain parts of your landscaping and can be an ideal method of highlighting trees scattered throughout your yard. By simply laying a solid mound of mulch around the base of a tree, you can create a focal point for the eye to wander towards. Additionally, you don’t need to stop at simply mulching the area, as you can plant flowers, special types of grasses, and other plants around the tree to create a veritable mini-garden. There are a variety of different types of materials that can be used to mulch with. The one that is right for you will depend heavily upon the rest of your landscape’s design. When choosing mulch, be sure to take every other element of your yard into consideration before making a purchase, as removing mulch can be a difficult process once it has already been laid down.

Water Features

Just about anyone that begins to expand their interest in landscaping considers adding a water feature to their yard at some point. Indeed, water features can be extremely attractive, and they can actually be used to highlight trees in your yard. One of the best ways to go about doing this is to add a small circular pond around the base of a tree. This is an easy enough project for beginner landscapers to take on. Furthermore, this usually doesn’t cost a lot of money to implement and can be highly effective at diverting eyes towards your trees. When planning a water feature, it is always wise to consult the help of a professional landscaper, especially if you have never worked with water features before.
