Summer is officially in full swing, and women want to both look their best while feeling cool at the same time. You may be a fan of headscarves and enjoy wearing them on a regular basis. But which, exactly, are the best ways to wear one so that you can look fashionable and still feel comfortable in the hot weather? This is important so that you can stay cool, and there are some great tips and ideas for wearing your headscarf in the best ways.
First of all, since it is summer and the season is the hottest of the year, it is best to opt for lighter colors when you select your headscarf. Of course, this is just a suggestion, not a rule, so if you prefer a black scarf, by all means, use one! But a light color is better suited to allow better air ventilation through and will reflect sunlight rather than absorbing it like dark colors do, which will in turn help to keep you feeling cooler.
One of the best, coolest and more basic ways to wear a headscarf during the summer is to fold it over thinly and wear it as a headband. This is a great way to look fashionable and keep cool at the same time, as you tie the scarf underneath your head, with your hair pulled slightly back at the same time. This keeps your hair directly off the nape of your neck, even if it is long, which in turn allows the area to breathe. Wrap the headscarf around several times and place it at the top of your head, with the ends facing downward. Make sure to tie the ends under your hair at the back of your neck. At the same time, your hair should also be pulled back from your ears as well. This gives better ventilation to your ears, sides of your face and the nape of your neck, which helps you to stay cool. You can also style your hair differently while wearing your headband headscarf, but this is all up to you. You can pull it back into a bun or ponytail in a snap.
Another popular way to wear a headscarf, particularly during the summer, is to wrap it around your head while you are wearing a bun or if you are donning a ponytail and have somewhat shorter hair. Pull your hair back into a low ponytail or bun first, and then take your headscarf -- again, better if it's light in color so the sunlight can reflect off of it -- and fold it in half so that it makes a triangle. Place the scarf on your head with the long end at your hairline and tie the ends around your bun or ponytail. Tuck the material around your hair tightly but comfortably.
You can also achieve the skullcap look with a chic headscarf. To do this, you would fold your scarf the same way you would for the bun wrap. Place it on your head with the long end at your hairline as well, but simply tie the ends at the base of your skull. This look works if you have long hair or short, with all your locks loose.
