Make Your Own Urban Oasis

The constant activity of the city is what makes it alluring and exciting, but it’s beneficial to make your own urban oasis to have someplace to escape when you’d like to unwind and have some peace and quiet. Many city dwellers skip town for a little rest and relaxation on long weekends. Others flock to spas and yoga studios for a taste of serenity. An easy way to soften the intensity of city living is to create your own urban oasis at home. By incorporating elements from your favorite relaxing places, you can enjoy the hustle outside but retreat to a calmer environment.

One thing that many relaxing spaces have in common is a lack of clutter. If you went to a spa that had dirty towels lying on the floor and junk mail cluttering the counters, you’d probably just walk out the door. Keeping clutter in your apartment to a minimum is a great first step in creating a calmer space.

Other simple touches can help add a bit of tranquility to your space. Focus on the room(s) where you spend the most leisure time to start. If you love to read you might want to buy a new luxurious throw for your favorite chair or if you spend a lot of time in the kitchen to unwind you may want to stock up on fun cooking accessories. Adding aromatherapy elements to your apartment are a great way to create a refreshing environment. Investing in good quality candles or reed diffusers can add a bit of luxury to a room as well.

Another quick fix to help create a more peaceful space is adding a bit of greenery. We can’t all afford to keep fresh-cut flowers on hand, so buying some houseplants can add a bit of natural beauty to your space. Certain houseplants also have the added benefit of filtering the air in your apartment.
