Prom is often the most important night of a girl’s teenage years. For years leading up to the big day, girls dream of the princess-style dress they will wear and the fairytale elements that will comprise the dance décor. Everything must be perfect: the dress, the hair, the makeup, and even the date. Girls begin prepping for prom months in advance; hitting the gym to look fabulous in the perfect gown, making trips to the tanning salon for just the right amount of a sun-kissed glow, and making sure their manicures stay at tip-top condition. All of these things are important, but nothing polishes off the perfect prom look like the right makeup.
Once you’ve found your dream gown and picked out the perfect hairstyle, it is now time to think about a makeup style that is complimentary but not too overdone. Dancing to your favorite music and having fun with friends means that makeup will have a tough time staying in place. Not only do girls have to think about the style they want to achieve, but the products that will help them achieve that style, while also locking everything in place.
The first step to achieving a prom-worthy look is to keep everything natural. An even, glowing skin-tone is the key to this look. A girl wants to look beautiful and elegant on her prom day, not overdone with cakey makeup and heavily rimmed eyes. The biggest prom faux-pas is wearing too much makeup. Skip the foundation and opt for a tinted moisturizer instead. The slight amount of color, combined with the sheer formula, provide just enough coverage and skin-evening magic for a look that is perfectly natural.
When deciding on a makeup style, plan on highlighting one main element. If your eyes are your favorite feature, choose a style that makes them stand out and keep the rest of your face understated. The same is true of lips. A flattering pinky coral shade of blush is just the right addition to whichever feature you plan on highlighting. To achieve unforgettable eyes, prep lids with a primer to keep shadow in place. Apply liner with a light hand to gives eyes a natural brightening. Finish off the look with a pair of false lashes applied to the outer corners of the eye and a healthy dosage of mascara. If you want your lips to be the center of attention, prep them with a light sugar scrub and apply a hydrating balm. Find a lip-liner in an almost identical shade as your lipstick and fill lips in completely. For a perfect, glossy finish apply a coat of lipstick and then blot with a tissue, apply one more coat for staying power.
Once your makeup is complete, be sure to pack emergency necessities in your clutch in case you need to touch anything up. Lip gloss, eye-liner, a compact powder, mirror, and perfume should do the trick. With all of these items in hand, you are sure to look gorgeous on your prom night.
