New Year's Eve Party Theme Ideas

New Year's Eve is a time for celebrating the passing of one year as well as the hope and anticipation that the new year brings. It engenders many theme ideas for a great year end party event. Once everyone is past all of the trepidation of going to a celebration on a very difficult night when traveling is perilous and most destinations are crowded and pricey, and you and your guests can settle into your own celebration, then the night becomes festive and exciting.

House parties on New Years have become a favorite because they are in controlled environments and minimize the amount of travel. Some people subscribe to the rule that if you go to more than one place on New Years Eve, you will be in your car when the clock strikes midnight. So decorate your home with streamers and provide party favors and noisemakers. Have a sound system you can crank up for dancing and make dinner a buffet so that people can move around and keep the party bubbling. Champagne is the order of the night for New Years and you should supplement it with other beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Decorate with photographs, both personal and news worthy from the passing year. Everyone has their ups and downs, but this is a time to celebrate the good from the passing year.

You can have people wear costumes and stage a mock murder mystery with the killer being revealed at midnight. Have your guests create time capsules with their predictions for sporting and political competitions for the coming year and offer a prize to be awarded when they are opened at next year's party. If this is a family event and kids will be present, then create a game night component and have the kids and adults play games for prizes. And make sure there is a television handy to watch the ball drop in Times Square and make everyone feel a part of something big.

These are just some of the many ideas for a New Year's party. This is a time to let your hair down and just party till you drop.
