Painted Glass Crafts

Glass is a great art medium for crafts, and one that offers endless possibilities for painting and more. One possible glass craft, which is great for all ages, is painting vases. Chances are you probably have most of the necessary materials already in your home! You will need:

  • A clean, empty jar or vase
  • Acrylic or liquid tempera paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • White glue
  • A clear gaze (available at craft stores)

To make the paint stick to the jar, just mix in whatever color you would like with some glue. The thicker the paint, the better the chance it won't run. Then, simply design and let dry! To perfect your work of art and offer a protective seal, finish off with clear glaze.

In need of a unique and thoughtful gift? Painted wine glasses or champagne flutes could be the way to go. It is simple, fun, and full of thought! Your loved ones are sure to enjoy! Here are the materials that you'll need: Wine glasses or champagne flutes, glass paint, rubbing alcohol (to erase mistakes), and soap and water. First, wash the glasses thoroughly with soap and water. Then, paint your design. You can do this a number of different ways, using either stencils or by placing a drawing inside the glass and painting the image on the outside or, even better, try doing it free hand for an authentic artsy touch. Allow the paint to dry for 24 hours. Finally, it's time to bake your work. Time and temperatures may vary based on the type of glass you are using, but generally, glasses should be baked in the over at 325 degrees for 40 minutes. Once you have done this, your glasses should be resistant to any wear and tear!
