When you are attending a wedding as a guest, you are clearly not a member of the wedding party, so you will not have to worry about buying a certain color or style dress. That is for the bridesmaids and other members of the bridal party to worry about. However, you will nonetheless want to look your best, and a great dress will help you to accomplish that. Fortunately, there are so many places you can shop to buy a great dress that is appropriate for guests of a wedding.

You may or may not have an idea of what you want to look for prior to setting out on your shopping trip. Usually, weddings take on a certain color scheme, but if you are merely a guest, you may not have any insight as to that information. Therefore, you are free to choose any color and style of your wedding guest dress, as long as it is within appropriate range. It is a good idea, however, to check with the bride whether black is an okay color to wear to her wedding, as some people are superstitious and consider it to be bad luck. It is also good form to wear a dress that is at least to the knee when you are attending a wedding.

When you start shopping, visit any fancy dress shops in your area. These are a good place at which to initially shop, as they will most likely sell dresses that are appropriate for weddings and may offer good prices, depending on designer brands they carry. Take a look at the merchandise and talk with the store owner or an employee and tell them you are seeking a dress that would be good for a wedding as a guest. They will gladly help you and direct you to appropriate dresses. Make sure you specify a preferred color and style.

Well known department stores are also good options available to you. Dress Barn is a great store that carries a wide variety of dresses, many of which are perfect to wear to weddings as a guest. Prices are quite reasonable as well, and you might even want to consider buying a gorgeous dress that comes with a matching small bolero jacket. Nordstrom and Lord & Taylor are other great stores that are more on the upscale side, so you may find dresses that are priced somewhat higher, depending on the designer brand.

You can also shop for a great wedding guest dress at the more mainstream department stores, such as Kohl's and Sears. Both stores carry a wide variety of women's clothing in sizes that fit petites all the way up to plus size, or women's. Prices will also be cheaper at these stores, although the quality of dresses is wonderful.
