Popular ideas for bedroom color schemes are not always obvious or perfect for you, but if you're looking to paint, there are a ton of options. You spend roughly one-third of your life in your bedroom, so you want it to be a place that you come to relax. A fresh coat of paint on the walls, along with matching bedding and accessories can make a big difference in the way that your bedroom looks. Consider some of these popular bedroom color schemes for your room.

Bringing the Outdoors Inside

Neutral tones are popular with many, so it's a great choice for the bedroom when you're trying to sell your home. Even if you plan to live there forever, light colors can help you relax. One way to bring the outside in is to use the beach as your inspiration. Paint your walls the color of sand and complement that with dark wood furniture. Incorporate hints of ocean blue in your accessories. Hang island-themed art on the walls to tie the look together. Alternatively, you could also create a natural look using various shades of green. Pale green colors can be very neutral and when you pair them with brown, it creates an organic look.

Shades of Blue

The color blue has a calming effect, which makes it a great color for the bedroom. Different people prefer to decorate with different shades of blue. For example, starting with white as the main color, you can incorporate any shade of blue into the design for a light, airy look. Pairing a turquoise color with brown is a popular trend in teen girl's rooms. If you're decorating a boy's room or a guest room, navy blue—perhaps with a nautical theme—can look especially sleek. This look tends to be masculine, though, so it may not work well for a couple's room, unless using the navy as an accent color.

Pretty in Pink

Pink remains the classic girly color and you'll find that it's still a popular color choice when decorating children's rooms. A young child may prefer the lighter shades of "princess pink" whereas teen girls might like hot pink shades, paired with other bright colors like turquoise or lime green. To use pink in a more grown-up fashion, use it as an accent color rather than the main color of the room. For example, you could choose a comforter and curtains in a deep chocolate brown and use light pink in other areas of the room.

Jewel Tones

If you want a more luxurious space, think about using jewel tones in your design. A deep purple or rich red could make you feel warm and snug in your bed. These types of colors tend to match well with metallic colors, like silver, gold and bronze.

The Right Colors for You

Your bedroom is a very personal space and should reflect your individuality. If your favorite color isn't necessarily a popular choice, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't use it for decorating. Bright colors may stimulate other people, but you might find them comforting. Neutral shades may be what others prefer, but you may think they're boring. Look to your own favorite things to find the color scheme that's best for you.
