Popular Women's Hairstyles for 2011

By Christeen Savinovich , last updated May 27, 2011

The Spring hairstyles for 2011 will appear familiar to styles that you’ve seen in the past. This is because this season old looks have been revamped into new more dramatic, funkier hairstyles that many are eager to try.

Low Buns

Last season high ballerina buns were all the rage on the runway. Those buns have become the more playful bohemian low buns that sit at the nape of the neck. These buns can be sloppy or sophisticated and either pulled to the side of the back. The one stipulation is that they should be loose which creates the exact opposite feel of the neat ballerina bun.

Punky Pixie

This look combines the short pixie cut with a messy Mohawk. The sides are cut much shorter than the top which is long enough to style in a few different ways. For this season the top is chunky, textured, fun and a breeze to style. Simply run volumizing or texturizing mousse through the top section of hair and let air dry. The messiness of the top is countered by the well manicured, polished look of the sides.

The Swoop

The swoop is a simple look that was born out of attempts to grow out last year’s side bangs. With this look you simply blow dry your bangs to one side to create volume then flip them to the other side and pin the ends down with a bobby pin or two.

The Bob

The bob has been around for years and this season it emerges as cute, fun and relaxed. Those with bobs are encouraged to run texturizing mousse or pomade through it to create loose beachy waves that are the perfect compliment for warm breezy weather.

Old hairstyles have come back with a bang this season as playful, edgy cuts that compliment everyone.
