The Prettiest Haircuts for Long, Curly Hair

By Renee Gerber , last updated February 4, 2012

You can get some of the prettiest haircuts when you have long, curly hair. But when you have naturally curly hair, it can seem almost impossible to manage it at times. Particularly, humid weather, especially when it rains, can really do a number on you, and you are more likely to experience what is known as a bad hair day. At the same time, natural curls are often the envy of many women who were not blessed with such a hair type. You do not have to go out of your way to spend hundreds of dollars in achieving a curly perm, and you no doubt have heads turning on the street when you are having a great hair day. Natural curls are worn in a wide variety of styles and lengths, although long hair is a favorite among women with this hair type. A great way to get a beautiful long, curly haircut is to have some ideas for styles and the right hairstylist, who has a lot of experience with your type of hair.

One of the best haircuts you can get when you have long curly hair is to simply let it stay generally at the same length. Naturally, you will need a haircut at least once every two or three months, but when you have long, curly hair, the best thing to do when you want it long is to simply get a trim and keep it long. Frequent trimming will ensure that your hair is healthy and grows out that way, as you can easily suffer the effects of damaged hair when you don't get it cut on a regular basis. Wearing your hair all loose and having a natural part on one side or the other or in the middle of your head is often the best styles for naturally curly hair that is long.

A great variation of the previous hairstyle is to keep your curly hair long but to have it cut in layers. Generally speaking, curly hair is best left in a single length, especially when it is more on the thin side. However, in some cases, depending on the tightness of the curls, you can really make quite an impression by having the curls cut in varying lengths throughout your head. You can have your stylist start either at the very top of your head or as far down as ear or chin length, having the layers reach down to the bottom of your tresses. This is an elegant look that can also work well when you have very thick curly hair, as it will eliminate some of the muss and fuss that goes into adequately caring for your locks.

You can also have long bangs with your naturally curly long hair. Side bangs tend to work best, although you can have the standard type as well, in the middle of your forehead. In general, these usually look best when your curls are more loose than tight. If you do have particularly tight curls, however, you can use a hair dryer or straightener to straighten them. This is not a very time consuming task if this is the only portion of your hair you are working on, and it looks better, even if your hair is super curly.
