How to Remove Split Foyer Walls

A split-foyer house is a home designed with its entry door and foyer between two levels. To answer the door, a homeowner either has to go up or down a short flight of stairs. These small foyers often feature half walls either down the stairs in lieu of a traditional banister or around the top of the stairwell separating the living area from the foyer -- or both. While removing these walls doesn't give you any additional space, replacing the walls with railings lets in light and gives the illusion of more space, while keeping you safe.
