Shopping for Bamboo Wallpaper

Bamboo wallpaper has become very popular with consumers and interior decorators. Bamboo is known for being a sturdy and diverse material, but bamboo is gaining some special attention because it is an environmentally friendly product. A bamboo tree is able to grow and spread quickly, making bamboo a sustainable resource. In addition to its sustainability, bamboo groves produce 35 percent more oxygen than similar sized trees. Bamboo wallpaper is made of strips of bamboo affixed to fabric with glue, thread or carbon strips. Since bamboo wallpaper technically does not use any paper, it is an eco-friendly purchase that can give your room a distinctive look.

Measure the Room

Before purchasing bamboo wallpaper, you will want to measure the area of your room you would like to cover in the wallpaper. Keep in mind a standard roll of wallpaper covers about 36 square feet. Take a tape measurer, and measure the length of each of your walls. Add together the length of each of your walls and write down this number. Next, measure your wall height. If you have vaulted ceilings, you will need to measure the wall at its highest and lowest point and average the measurement for your overall wall height. Write down your wall height measurement. Multiply your wall length sum by your wall height. This will tell you the overall square footage of your room. Note how many doors and windows are in your room. For each door in your bedroom, subtract 20 from your overall square footage. For each window in your bedroom, subtract 15 from your overall square footage. Divide your final number by 36 and the resulting number is how many rolls of bamboo wallpaper you will need to purchase.

Where to Buy Bamboo Wallpaper

Bamboo wallpaper is available at your local home furnishing or hardware store. You can also find bamboo wallpaper for sale on the Internet. When shopping for bamboo wallpaper on the Internet, make sure you are familiar with the retailers return policies. If your bamboo wallpaper arrives and it does not look like the picture on the retailer’s Web site, then you want to be able to return the piece with relative ease. Keep in mind that bamboo wallpaper usually does not come with an adhesive back. You will also need to purchase wallpaper paste in order to attach your bamboo wallpaper to the wall.

Types of Bamboo Wallpaper

Bamboo wallpaper comes in varying shades and sizes. Since bamboo wallpaper is made from natural bamboo, there will be slight variations in every roll of bamboo wallpaper you purchase. The slight variations are part of the look and style of the wallpaper. When choosing your type of bamboo wallpaper, you will need to determine the size of the bamboo strips you’d like in your room. The bamboo strips used in wallpaper can come in widths from 4 millimeters all the way up to 17 millimeters. You can buy bamboo wallpaper finished with stain and lacquer or you can purchase it in a natural condition.
