Shopping for a Bathroom Vanity

With so many styles, finishes and hardware options, shopping for a bathroom vanity can be a bit overwhelming. As you begin to consider different configurations, the most important thing to remember is making sure the vanity will meet your family's needs. Think over the following considerations before your next trip to the hardware store.

Storage

Vanities provide a great deal of storage within a bathroom, so it's important to take into account just how much storage you'll need. For example, a couple's master bath will need to store twice the amount of products, so a double vanity might be worth the extra investment.

Style

Bathroom vanities come in a variety of styles, so make sure to find one that matches the rest of your home. Vanities that are designed to look like an old dresser or buffet would fit in well in a historic home but keep in mind that these styles typically have less storage space underneath.

Construction

You should invest in a vanity made from the best materials that your budget can afford. Bathrooms are tough environments for cabinetry. Not only are vanities heavily used, but they're also subject to regular heat and moisture from the shower. Invest in a high-quality product to get the most years out of your vanity.

Countertop Surface

When discussing options for the surface of the vanity, consider who will be using it. A vanity topped with marble or another delicate material would work well in a little-used powder room. Such decorative vanity tops wouldn't stand up well to the hallway bathroom where you bathe the kids. A sturdier material such as solid surface or laminate may work better in this environment.

Height

An often-overlooked part of the shopping process is the height of the vanity. If you're especially short or tell, look into vanities that fit your height so the vanity will be both functional and easy to use.

When you start to narrow down the vast array of vanities according to your preferences, shopping for a new bathroom vanity will be a much easier task.
