Once again popular after years of being a fashion outcast, the bolero jacket is a cropped style of jacket that can have either short or long sleeves. Boleros are normally worn as the outermost layer with shirts or a dress underneath. The style is very similar to a shrug, but boleros tend to be a bit fancier and more formal. Read on to learn about some of the cooler boleros you can buy.
Surprisingly enough, the fairly conservative clothing store Bloomingdale's stocks quite a few bolero jackets. These include the Aqua Cashmere Long Sleeve Bolero Jacket, which they sell for $170. This one comes in black and has an open body with long sleeves and a draping collar. The jacket also has ruching at the shoulders and is made entirely of cashmere. For a similarly priced option, get the $169 Lauren by Ralph Lauren Jerrilyn Bolero with Ruffles. This is black as well but has an open placket with ruffle trimming at the collar and hem, self starting cuffs on the long sleeves and a wool and acrylic body.
Saks is one of Bloomingdale's biggest competitors, and it also carries a stellar bolero jacket in the Oscar de la Renta Cashmere/Silk Bolero Sweater. This one has 3/4 length sleeves, comes in a dark navy and measures only 13 inches from the shoulder to the hem. It's also made of an ultra soft 70% cashmere and 30% silk blend.
The high end spinoff site of Zappos sells a cool bolero style garment in the Vivienne Westwood Bolero Cape, which goes for $590. This one has an allover green and brown paisley pattern, a huge folded over collar with revers and a single button front closure. It also features 3/4 length sleeves like the Oscar de la Renta and has a flared bottom hem.
