Shopping for a Camel Coat

By Ted Rollins , last updated October 15, 2011

The trendiest color in fall outerwear is undeniably camel, which can very easily complement the rest of your warm weather wardrobe. Nearly every top outerwear designer makes its own camel coat, ranging from oversized coats to those with a more body hugging fit. Read on to learn about the best camel coats at a range of price points.

Saks Fifth Avenue

This high-end department store carries a number of camel coats, both of which are fairly expensive. The first is the MaxMara Camel hair Coat, which retails for $2,190. This one has a standing buckle collar, a hidden button down front and large patch pockets. You'll also find stylish exposed seam details and a more structured cut than similar coats. The coat is Italian made and measures 35 inches from the shoulder to the hem.

Saks also sells the Ralph Lauren Collection Clarence Camel Hair Coat, a luxurious item that's made of ultra soft camel hair. This one also has a hidden button front and cuffs with large button tabs. You'll find simple front flap pockets and a fairly understated look. This one is made in America and measures 38 inches long. Luxury comes at a price, however, as this coat rings up at $4,598.

Bluefly

If you'd rather spend thousands on a new car than a new coat, Bluefly carries a few options that are quite a bit more affordable. The megastore sells the DKNY Camel Wool Blend Breane Belted Coat, which retails for $380 but now goes for less than half price. The coat is made of a heavyweight wool blend and has a notched lapel with a triple button down front, angled front well pockets featuring tortoiseshell buckles and a button close belt loop, as well as a vented back. The jacket is fully lined in sateen and measures 38 inches long.

Bluefly also carries a great European style camel jacket in the Cinzia Rocca Light Camel Wool Angora Pleated Collar Coat, which retails for $1,095 but now goes for half off. The coat comes in a light camel color and is made of a strong wool and angora blend. You'll find a pleated wide spread collar with a long button placket, double on seam pockets and slits at the cuff. The jacket is fully lined and has a slimmer fit than the above mentioned coats, yet still measures 39 inches long.

Net A Porter

This online boutique carries a number of camel jackets from both big name and smaller designers. The first is the Stella McCartney Edith Camel Wool Coat, which sells for $2,145. This one comes in a darker mocha camel wool and has oversized notched lapels, a single front welt pocket, slit pockets at the side and a fully lined body. It also has a masculine double-breasted front and goes great with suit pants or a mini dress, at least according to Net A Porter.

Net A Porter also carries a more feminine camel coat in The Row Portsmouth Camel Wool Cardi-Coat. Selling for $,1290, this one comes in a chunky knit camel wool style with a round neck and half-length dolman sleeves. It has a gold double zipper pull down the front and a stylish bohemian cut. You can pair this one with a chunky knit sweater, a crisp blouse or some black leather leggings.
