Shopping for Knit Ties

Though once relegated only to school uniforms, knit ties are becoming fashionable men’s neckwear far beyond the schoolyard. Knit ties are commonly made from silk, and sometimes wool or cashmere, and generally come in solid or striped patterns. Since knit ties have texture, they make a great fashion statement. Quality is key in assuring that a knit tie looks good, so it’s important to find the best. Generally, respected, high-end menswear retailers will carry a small selection of knit ties.

Silk Knit Ties

Polo Ralph Lauren’s Knit Silk Solid Tie is a lush silk knit tie. Retailing for $75, this silk knit tie is handcrafted from luxurious Italian silk and is available in Kelly green and pink. The vintage-inspired silhouette falls in step with current vintage trends and makes a bolder statement than regular ties.

For a patterned knit silk tie, check out the Brooks Brothers BB#1 Stripe Slim Knit Tie, $79.50. Also crafted from Italian silk, it is available in four colors of striped patterns: black, brown, navy, and red. Modern with a vintage twist, this knit tie brings a fresh look to menswear.

Check out the high-quality London retailer TM Lewin for more great selection of men’s knit silk ties. TM Lewin ties come in multiple styles and colors and retail from about £80 when not on sale.

Wool Knit Ties

Wool knit ties are a bit harder to find than silk knit ties, but they are out there. Mountain & Sackett offers a few wool knit ties, $74, crafted from the finest Italian wool. Handmade in Italy, the Mountain & Sackett knit wool ties come in olive green, gray, red, navy and black.

Cashmere Knit Ties

Cashmere is a fine fabric, so high-quality cashmere can be more expensive. The E. Marinella Napoli Black Cashmere Necktie is a fashion investment. At $225, this square bottom tie is 100% cashmere and handmade in Italy, and certainly one of the finest pieces in men’s neckwear.
