An A-line skirt is a popular women's garment style that's designed to be fitted at the hip and slowly widen as it reaches the hem; this triangular shape gives it its name, as it closely resembles a capital letter A. While the A-line is most closely associated with skirts, it can also be used for dresses and coats. The style was quite popular in the 1950s and slowly went out of fashion through the 70s and 80s. Once the 1990s arrived, it crept its way back into the fashion lexicon and now once again is a fixture in womenswear. In the following, you'll find out more about some popular A-line skirt styles.
A-line skirts tend to cost no more or less than any other skirt style. That being said, you can choose to spend $10 or $10,000 on the perfect A-line skirt that fits in with your wardrobe and budget. The Preen Line Serpert Skirt in Black is a good midrange to high end option. Retailing for $406, the Serpent Skirt is 100% silk, has a drawstring waist, belt loops, fabric overlay on the back, a draped back, asymmetrical hem and bold pure black body. Net A Porter also sells the Preen Line Bianca High Waisted Stretch Cotton A-line Skirt, a grey and green stretch cotton skirt that has a detachable black leather belt and girly pleats. The site suggests wearing the skirt with a sleek leather tank and a pair of bold pumps. Tibi sells the more affordable Dark Denim A-line Skirt. Retailing for $198, this indigo number has a feminine body, front space placket and scallop detailing at the pockets. The skirt is made of a 98% cotton and 2% polyurethane blend. Calvin Klein also sells the A-line Rope Belt Suit Skirt for $79.50. This twill A-line skirt has a D ring rope belt, hidden tab closure with a zip fly, two wide slit pockets, back button patch pockets and tarnished brass hardware. You can find an ultra splurge A-line skirt at Bergdorf Goodman. The Brunello Cucinelli Leather A-line Skirt has a voluminous look with large pleats, a dark brown leather, side slash pockets, a flat banded waist and side zips. If you really want to splash the cash on your next A-line skirt, visit Net A Porter A-line Skirt. Retailing for $7,550, this classic skirt is made of a butter soft tobacco leather and has a simple pleated style that works well in the office with a blazer and flats or can be worn as a bolder garment with a fancy scarf and daring top. Bergdorf sells the Herve Leger A-line Skirt, which has an anthracite knit, signature bandage detailing, fitting through the waist with a slight flare at the hip, a banded back zip and a comfortable rayon, nylon blend. You don't always have to spend a ton to get a great skirt, however; the Macy's Material Girl Ruffled Tiered A Line Mini is a comfortable cotton and spandex blend with a wide elastic waistband that only retails for $26.
