Shopping for Vintage Floral Prints

If history repeats itself, surely fashion follows suit. And in the case of vintage floral prints, this is anything but a bad thing. Spring and summer styles warrant a huge variety of festive floral looks, so why not don a vintage print to achieve a boho-chic look. And no worries, whether you're shopping for true vintage pieces, or modern reincarnations, you won't look outdated in this timeless pattern. Below are some tips for picking out vintage floral items to keep you looking fresh in this classic look.

Though vintage is in vogue, going psychedelic with your fashion statement is taking things too far. Many of the looks you'll see in stores today have that vintage floral look, but in an updated silhouette and muted colors. Another key is to pare down louder pieces by wearing simple accessories and complimenting clothes. For example, if you've found a fabulous floral printed blouse, pairing it with chic black pants or a skirt, and simple earrings is the way to go. This way, you will look modern while accentuating your vintage floral piece, but not appearing too busy. Wearing one vintage or vintage-like piece is classy, but going head-to-toe in vintage prints may come off as too costumey.

When you're shopping for true vintage items, more often than not you may find clothes that are poor fitting, or have an outdated fit — don't let this stop you from considering a piece made from beautiful floral fabric. Consider how you might be able to alter the item. A trip to the tailor might prove worthwhile if it's an easy fix. Many times vintage dresses just need to be shortened to appear more modern. And if all else fails adding a simple belt to cinch in the waist of a dress or blouse can be a quick, easy and fashionable fix.
