Spicy Shrimp Tacos

Throw some variety into your taco night routine by switching out beef or chicken for spicy shrimp tacos. With shrimp, be extra careful to only use the freshest ingredients. In what follows, you’ll find a few different takes on the taco.

Spicy Shrimp Tacos with Tomatillo Salsa

Ingredients


1 tsp. chili powder
½ tsp. ground red pepper
¼ tsp. kosher salt
3 minced garlic cloves
1 lb. peeled and deveined shrimp
1 tsp. olive oil
½ lb. chopped tomatillos
¼ cup chopped onion
¼ cup sour cream
2 tbsp. chopped cilantro
2 tbsp. cider vinegar
1 tbsp. lime juice
1 tsp. sugar
1/8 tsp. kosher salt
1 peeled avocado
1 seeded and chopped Serrano chile
8 corn tortillas

Instructions

Begin by preparing your shrimp. Combine your chili powder, ground red pepper, kosher salt, garlic cloves and shrimp in a bowl. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Take a large nonstick skillet and heat your tsp. of olive oil over medium-high heat. Toss in your shrimp mixture and saut� for about 5 minutes. Next, begin making your salsa. Place your tomatillos, onion, sour cream, cilantro, vinegar, lime juice, sugar, kosher salt, avocado and Serrano chile in your food processor and blend until the mixture is smooth. Warm up your tortillas – the method will vary depending on the specific directions. Divide the shrimp among your tacos and top each with about ¼ cup of your tomatillo salsa. Serve right away.

Chipotle Shrimp Taco with Avocado Salsa

Ingredients


1 quartered onion
1 quartered jalapeno
1 smashed garlic clove
4 chopped tomatillos
½ Haas avocado, peeled, seeded and in chunks
1 ¼ tsp. kosher salt
¼ cup chopped cilantro
1 tsp. chipotle
1 tsp. kosher salt
1 lb. medium shrimp, deveined and peeled
8 corn tortillas
8 cilantro sprigs for garnish
2 wedged limes

Instructions

Place your onion, jalapeno and garlic in a food processor on its “chop” setting. Put your tomatillos, avocado and salt in too and then pulse. Put this mixture in a bowl and stir in your cilantro. Heat your stovetop to medium-high. Mix up your olive oil, chipotle and salt in a large bowl and use this to coast your shrimp. Grill the shrimp until they’re translucent, which should take 1 to 2 minutes per side. Grill your tortillas for 20 seconds per side, spoon your sauce into the tortilla, top with 2 or 3 shrimp and a piece of cilantro. Serve with a wedge of lime on the side.

Simple Shrimp Tacos

Ingredients


1 tsp. chili powder
¼ tsp. kosher salt
3 minced garlic cloves
1 lb. peeled and deveined shrimp
1 tsp. olive oil
½ lb. chopped tomatillos
¼ cup chopped onion
¼ cup sour cream
2 tbsp. cider vinegar
1 tbsp. lime juice
1 tsp. sugar
1 peeled avocado
8 tortillas

Instructions

Combine your first five ingredients in a large bowl and refrigerate for 20 minutes. Heat up your oil in a skillet and saut� your shrimp for 4 minutes. Place your tomatillos and the next eight ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth. Heat up your tortillas, divide your shrimp among them and top with some of your salsa. Serve and eat straight away!
