Style Perfectly Tousled Curls

When it comes to getting perfectly tousled curls, the last thing you want is stiff curls that don't bend or move. Although these types of curls work great if you are going to be partaking in activities where you don't want them to come undone, it doesn't work well for a natural and beautiful look. Many women don't realize that you don't have to do stiff curls in order to have styled curls. There are a couple different ways you can go about creating a style that will last throughout your special occasion.

The first mistake many women make is washing their hair right before styling. If you are styling your hair for a special occasion, and not for your everyday look, where it is important that it doesn't work its way out of your hair, you will want to wash your hair the night before, work gel through it, and then blow dry. This will help your hair to have the proper texture to hold a curl. It will also mean that you won't have to use as much hairspray the next day, which gives you that crunchy and crisp look everyone tries to avoid. You don't have to put a lot of gel in your hair, just enough that it thickens your hair and leaves behind enough residue to hold.

After your hair is properly prepared, the next important decision you will have to make is what type of curl iron you want to use. Spiral curl irons are great for getting those corkscrew curls. Depending on your hair texture, you can even brush them out to achieve loose waves. Conair offers models for just $15. If you want loose waves right off the bat, go for a larger curl iron. For smaller curls, without the aid and guidance that the Conair Spiral Curl Iron provides, use a small curl iron, preferably one that is smaller than 1 inch.

When curling your hair, curl in sections. Work from the bottom up and make sure you curl all areas of your head. You don't want to apply hairspray prior to styling, as this will result in your hair burning. Instead, spray after you have finished each layer and scrunch to make sure the curls are evenly coated. A great hairspray that doesn't leave your hair feeling heavy or crunchy but provides amazing volume is Fat Hair. It can be purchased in many brick and mortar stores as well as online. It is by far one of the leading products on the market and is a steal for the price, just $11.99 for the hairspray and $2.99 if you buy the travel size.

If you plan on brushing the curls out, spray hairspray first and allow it to set. Wait until your hair as completely cooled, approximately 10 or 15 minutes, and then brush out. Results tend to be better when you use a large comb instead of your fingers, as the oils in your hand can ruin the curls structure.
