It only takes a few simple ideas to get a summer luau party underway. The hot summer weather invokes visions of sandy beaches, bright flowers, and colorful food. Why not bring a little luau to your humble abode with some of these fun tips to a summer luau party?

Start your party with some fun invitations. You can bring the kids together to make your own with palm trees, flowers, colorful fonts and hula girls. Don’t forget to start your greeting with “Aloha!” You may also want to mention to guests that luau attire is required, such as Hawaiian shirts, Bermuda shorts, and grass skirts.

Summer luau parties are the perfect events to fire up that barbeque. Mouth-watering kebabs with ham, beef or chicken integrated with some delicious marmalade glazed fruits such as mangos and pineapples are easy to make and to eat! Grilled fish, steamed clams, crab legs or lobster are other great barbeque items. Add a colorful tower of fresh fruit and your already halfway finished.

Drinks can include alcoholic mixes such as Pina Coladas, frozen Daiquiris and frozen Margaritas or for the kids blended fruit smoothies. Add a small drink umbrella as a finishing touch or some colorful straws.

Finally, decorate your back yard with Tiki torches, hang lanterns, or string floral garland. If you have a pool, there are plenty of color pool floats such as palm tree seats, dolphins, or beach balls to add flavor. Set up some tropical music to add to the ambience, you can create your own mixed CD.

Lastly, don’t forget some added entertainment! Plan a game of limbo or a hula-hoop contest. You might want to buy artificial leis or have guests make their own leis with fresh flowers. If you really want to add some authenticity, hire performers to hula dance or play music. Summer luaus are a great way to enjoy some fun in the sun!
