Apply concealer to hide any blemishes, such as a bright red pimple or dark under-eye circles that result from too many late nights. While you do want to hide any imperfections, you don't want the outside world to know that you're concealing anything. Before adding foundation or any other type of make-up, put your concealer on.
Before you apply any type of make-up to your skin, dab on a layer of moisturizer to help the concealer stay in play and not look dry or cakey. If you are trying to hide blotchy red spots or pimples, skipping the moisturizer can make them look more noticeable and can also make your skin problem worse, as dry skin becomes irritated.
For best results, choose a concealer that is close to your actual skin tone in color. Using a green concealer to hide red blotches can be tricky if you're not an expert make-up stylist. For the most coverage, select an opaque shade. If you are covering dark circles under your eyes, look for a concealer with a slightly pink undertone, as it will counteract the blues in the eye circles.
The skin under your eyes is usually thinner than the skin on the rest of your face. You'll have to take extra care when concealing any circles so that the skin doesn't look papery or dry. Apply a highlighter pen to the under-eye area just before applying the concealer to reduce the appearance of circles and make the area look brighter. Use a moisturizing concealer under the eyes so that they don't appear dry, which can make you look older.
Use a brush that is on the small side for concealing the under-eye area and small blemishes. The brush should be pointed and have slightly stiff bristles. If you're covering a larger area, use a brush that has a rounded tip and flat bristles.
