Tips for Arranging a Perfect Fall Centerpiece for Your Dining Room

By Heidi Green , last updated April 14, 2011

One of the easiest ways to decorate for fall is by adding a seasonally themed centerpiece to the dining room table. Fall is a time for chilly games of football and warm bowls of soup. It is a season that is often associated with sweaters, squash, falling leaves and family gatherings. Many homeowners celebrate the season of fall in their own little ways: learning how to make clam chowder, buying a new cardigan to wear around the house, and adding delightful fall themed decorative twists to their interior designs. Your fall centerpiece can take a number of forms, from dried out fall vegetable gourds to faux autumn leaves, but its final form is up to you and your imagination. If this sounds interesting to you, here are some tips for arranging a perfect fall centerpiece for your dining room.

Utilize Fall Vegetables and Fruit

One of the easiest ways to spruce up a dining room table is to set out a large bowl filled with nature's bounty. There are plenty of vegetables and fruits associated with the season, all offering their own vivid colors and interesting shapes. Take a visit to your local farmer's market for inspiration. When you are arranging the centerpiece bowl, try to mix differently sized pieces; small apples pair well with larger vegetables like zucchini.

The Great Pumpkin

Pumpkins aren't just a symbol of halloween; they are often used in a myriad of fall decorations. You can definitely use them for a festive and unique fall dining room centerpiece. Try buying mini pumpkins and placing them around a larger bowl filled with other vegetables, or wrapping a larger one with a string of faux autumnal leaves. Or, if you enjoy utilizing the Halloween theme, you can always use a large pumpkin for a jack-o-lantern. Place a candle in the carved pumpkin for a spooky but fun centerpiece.
