Tips for Buying Wallpaper

Although at first selecting wallpaper may seem as simple as just picking out a stylish pattern, buying it can be confusing once you are ready to make your actual purchase. You will need to consider how much wallpaper you will actually need, how easy or difficult it will be to hang and remove and what will be the actual cost. Here are some helpful tips for buying wallpaper to make your next shopping trip easier.

Materials

Wallpaper is available in a variety of materials. You will want to consider if the material you chose is easy to put up and eventually easy to clean. A material such as vinyl is considered both easy to hang and easy to clean. Therefore, it could be an appealing option depending on your tastes and lifestyle. If you prefer fabric wallpaper, hanging will be more challenging, and you'll need a special cleaner to remove stains.

Design and Pattern

In addition to the material from which the wallpaper is constructed, you will want to think about the design or pattern on the paper. If the paper has a drop pattern, which repeats diagonally, you could need too purchase extra paper to make sure that your patterns on each wall match. A straight match, such as a design of vertical stripes, will require less paper to cover the room. This is something to consider if you are on a budget.

Removal

You may be preoccupied with hanging your new wallpaper, but while you shop, you should consider how challenging it might be to remove paper late on in case you decide to redecorate in the future. If you buy self-adhesive paper, which you peel off the backing and stick onto the wall, you'll have an easier time removing your wallpaper later on. Wallpaper that contains no pre-paste or adhesive will be more challenging and perhaps messy to eventually remove.
