Tips for Cleaning Polyester
Because polyester is made from a synthetic material, it is very easy to clean. The clean-ability of the material is a major reason for its popularity, along with its ability to hold its form. It is always important to read whether your clothing is 100 percent polyester or a mixed fabric, as the cleaning instructions can alter based on the specific fabric. Nonetheless, there are still a few guidelines to follow when cleaning any polyester clothing. Read below for tips on how to have your polyester looking as new as possible.
Whether your clothing is comprised completely of polyester or a mix, it is fine to put it into the washing machine. You should use the permanent press feature when washing polyester, and set the water temperature to warm. Make sure it is not too hot, though. To prevent your polyester from becoming too stiff after washing, add a fabric softener to your load of wash.
When finished washing, allow the polyester to air dry by placing it on a clothesline. If you must use an electric or gas clothes dryer, keep it on the lowest possible setting. If you do prefer using a dryer, remove the polyester as soon as possible when it is finished. Polyester holds creases, so its form may alter a bit if you leave it in the dryer too long.
If you need to remove a specific spot from your polyester clothing, you can use dishwashing liquid. This will work on the majority of polyester items, but if you are hesitant to use dishwashing soap, search for a spot remover that is designed specifically for polyester. If you get oil on your polyester clothing, place baby powder over the spot. Rub it in and allow it to set for at least an hour before placing it in the washing machine and following the steps above.
