Tips for Finding a Spring Internship

By Erik Neilson , last updated December 22, 2011

Getting a spring internship is a great way to help flesh out your resume. While many people think of summer as being the time of year to get an internship, the fact of the matter is that spring is actually an even better time to get involved in an internship, as there is far less competition during this time of the year. Getting an internship is never easy, but there are plenty of things you can do in order to increase your chances of finding an internship that is right for you.

Develop a Clear Goal

One of the hardest parts of getting an internship is simply trying to understand exactly what it is that you’d like to do. As a result, your first step should be to develop a clear goal regarding what you’re trying to achieve. The more focused your goal, the easier it will be to achieve in the long run.

Use Your School’s Resources

Many schools have plenty of resources and connections that can help you to find an internship, no matter what time of the year you are searching for one. By talking to the appropriate office at your school, you can get the assistance you need in finding an internship that is right for you. Never go into the process without the help of your school, as it can be quite overwhelming.

Start Your Search Early

Getting an internship in the spring doesn’t mean starting a search a week or two before you’d expect to begin working. In order to truly find what you’re looking for, you need to begin your search months ahead of time. Begin planning your spring internship in the beginning of the year, right after the holidays are over; you’ll be happy you took the extra time to plan.
