Tips for Selecting Perfect String Lighting for an Outdoor Party

If you're throwing an outdoor party at night, you will want to think carefully about how you light the party.  Flood lights or an outdoor fire pit are great but string lighting provides lasting light that will provide the perfect backdrop to your party photos.  Choosing the right string lighting for your entertaining space can be tricky, so consider these helpful tips before buying your lights.

First and foremost, if you are not entertaining beneath a tent you should consider solar powered LED lights. These lights will not drain power from your home and last for many hours into the night.  The pluses far outweigh the costs.  No extension cords hanging dangerously on trees or worrying about animals chewing through the wires.  If it rains, you won't be worrying about water and electricity as the solar powered lights are self-contained, and won't transfer a harmful current. If you are into style, Target sells adorable solar powered mushroom lights that will fit into your shrubs as if it were a garden in the movie Avatar.

If the cost of the mushrooms is enough to scare you away, don't fret.  There are cheap string lights that will look great along a tree trunk in your yard.  This effect highlights the natural beauty while providing lights to your guests.  The downside is you may need an extension cord and the bulbs sometimes burn out.

If you are hosting an event and have rented a tent, consider long orb lights to run along the top of the tents structural supports.  These make for an intimate affair and are non-intrusive if you use the right wattage.

However you choose to light your party practice safe lighting. Don't overwhelm a circuit and check with your electrician to see exactly how much power will be needed.
