Top 3 Camping Headlamps

If you are an avid camper you will want to buy one of the top three camping headlamps. They are powered by batteries, which are usually inserted into the head rig in the back. You will want a headlamp the is not only effective in giving you a bright, strong light, but one with a battery pack that will last a long time, and one that will feel comfortable to wear.

The Princeton Tec Apex Headlamp has a very bright three-watt Luxeon LED bulb that projects a powerful and clear, white light farther than any lamp on the market. It also has four 5mm LED's on each side of the front light, creating a wide angle spectrum of bright light to illuminate a wide area ahead of you. All bulbs are adjustable to two settings, high and low, and the side lights can be made to blink in an emergency. It comes with a regulator circuit to prolong battery life when using high power and it has an LED power indicator that shows green when there is more than 40% battery life, yellow at less than 40%, and red when battery life is down to 20 to 30 minutes. The headlamp is completely waterproof so it is protected in a heavy rain or even under shallow water. The back of the light housing is aluminum so that it remains cool. The unit runs on 4 AA batteries. The entire unit is very durable and impact resistant and it comes with a lifetime warranty. This is the standard for camping headlamps and it is expensive. One complaint is that the light is so bright, even on the lower setting, that it creates glare when you are trying to read. But, that aside, this is the best headlamp available on the market today.

The Princeton Tec Vortec Headlamp is less expensive but also an excellent choice. It has a single bright halogen headlamp and is very durable. It provides a strong single beam of light with no dark spots. While it isn't as potent as the Apex, it has one advantage for water use. It is waterproof to 2000 feet. It is also lighter at 8 ounces and is more comfortable on your head. On the negative side, though, its battery life is not nearly as long as the Apex.

If you want a headlamp that is very light on your head, then the 3 ounce Black Diamond Spot is the choice for you. The solid headlamp has 8 different power settings and three spotlight intensities. It also has an emergency flashing setting. It has long battery life and this one can be dimmed to a level that is good for reading in your tent.
