Some ways you can update your kitchen lighting include track lighting, new light fixtures, a lighted ceiling fan, dimmer lighting, recessed lighting, or suspended light fixtures. Lighting in any room is important for setting the stage and ambiance of your home. The kitchen is especially important as often people gather there to drink, eat and talk, and there are a few things to consider before changing the lighting in this space.
The first thing to consider is what does your kitchen look like? How is the lighting designed now, and what do you want to do different to update it? If you have outdated light fixtures you can replace them with a number of choices. A lighted ceiling fan offers an aesthetic quality and functionality. Since the kitchen area tends to heat up when you coon, you can not only update your lighting, but increase circulation at the same time. Or you can choose a basic light fixture and add a dimmer to choose the level of lighting at any time.
Rope lighting can be added above or below your upper kitchen cabinets for an illuminating effect that offers a dim light rather than a traditional bright ceiling fixture. You may also want to use track lights which have multiple small fixtures on one track, and you can point the lights to different areas in the kitchen focusing on what you want in the spotlight.
If you have a breakfast bar in your kitchen you can have suspended light fixtures that each hang from an electrical cord mounted to the ceiling. For instance, if you have four bar stools at your breakfast bar, you can suspend four lights for symmetry. And don’t forget about the light fixture above the sink. A recessed light serves well in this location, or if you have suspended lighting at a breakfast bar you can continue this theme with the same type of light over your sink.
