Over the years the fanny pack has taken on a bit of a bad reputation as being dorky or unnattractive, but it remains extremely useful and versatile. More recently the fanny pack is staging a slight comeback in the fashion world. Regardless, the attribute that has kept the fanny pack around is that it's pretty easy to carry around. It's about as inconvenient as wearing a belt, which is pretty darn easy.
The fanny pack consists of a small pack with multiple compartments with straps you clip together or tie off at your waist. Depending on its size, the fanny pack can hold a number of small to medium-sized items. This allows you to tote around a bunch of stuff. Women might find the pack appealing due to the fact that many other feminine bags can be a pain in the butt. Carrying around a large purse may be stylish, but what about doing it for five hours straight? The fanny pack is light and doesn't take up one of your arms.
Men too have reasons to find the fanny pack handy. Guys don't carry purses. Guys don't usually carry around a backpack or satchel unless they're hiking or carrying their laptop. That doesn't mean men don't need to have a few things on them once in a while. The fanny pack comes in play when a man needs to have a few things them but not enough to fill larger bags. Pants only have so many pockets.
One of the best uses is physical activity and various sports. Clearly, the fanny pack or any bag for that matter has no place in a basketball game. It is much more useful when it comes to bicycling, jogging, hiking and climbing. Those Sunday bike rides, for instance, are times when you want to have your money and sunblock on you without worrying that they will slip from your pants. The fanny pack allows you to have your things and ride to your heart's content. As a light-weight carrier, it also prevents you from feeling like you're lugging something around. For hikers a pouch around the waist is esecially convenient.
The stereotypical image of a fanny pack wearer is that wandering tourist. That doesn't change the fact that the pack is a great travel bag. Most people who visit other parts of the world will be outside for hours. That's a long time to be away from your hotel room. Many destination spots lack some of the personal items we may need. Medication, snacks, maps, and lip balm are just a few things many of us like to have. The fanny pack is the perfect bag to carry these items. Unlike a backpack, the pack is less likely to bother you after several hours on the go. Be sure, however, to secure all your pack. Like any other bag, the fanny pack can be a target for pickpockets. A bonus of the fanny pack is that it can be worn in the front, decreasing the possibility of theft. Wallets and backpacks on our backside are at a higher risk.
