If you’ve been invited to a Halloween party this year, don’t freak out trying to figure out what to wear! Try some of these costumes instead.
Whether you want to purchase a full costume from a store, make one for yourself, or find yourself rushing around at the last minute trying to throw something together, these costume ideas will help you be the best (or at least the most cleverly) dressed person at the party.
Store-Bought Costumes
One of the easiest ways to decide what to wear to a Halloween party is to visit one of the seasonal Halloween or party supply stores in your area and browse through their costume selection.
If you don’t have such a store close by, try one of the many online sources for store-bought costumes. At sites like SpiritHalloween.com or PartyCity.com you’ll find a wide range of scary, sexy, or funny costumes for men, women, kids, and couples.
While purchasing your costume from a store is one of the more expensive options, it also takes a lot less time than running around and putting one together from scratch. If you’re a real Halloween enthusiast or just have the money to indulge, check out quality costume retailers like HorrorDome.com or GrandinRoad.com for high-end costumes that will be the hit of the Halloween party.
(Semi)Homemade Costumes
Rather than purchasing your entire costume at a Halloween or party supply store, consider saving a little money and only purchase a few accessories. Then put together the rest of your costume with stuff you have lying around the house or that can be purchased inexpensively at charity or thrift stores.
To dress as a zombie, all you’ll need is a bit of theatrical makeup and some old clothes that you can shred, stain, and otherwise manipulate to appear as though they’ve been buried underground. Stop by your local thrift store and find a black suit or a white dress to shred and dirty, giving the appearance of funeral best for the freshly risen dead.
A little bit of temporary hair color, some black nail polish, and some fake piercings paired with old ripped jeans and a torn up black tee shirt makes a quick punk rock costume.
Fangs, some fake blood, and a cape are all you need to be a convincing vampire when worn with a dark-colored suit or black dress that you already have in your closet.
Last Minute Costumes
If you really find yourself in a bind, a few good last minute costumes will come in handy.
Safety pin a bunch of socks to your clothes and go to your Halloween party as ‘Static Cling.’ Wear all black and dress as a ‘mourner,’ or attach an enlarged photocopy of a stamp (even a quick, hand drawn rendition of one will do) to your shirt to dress as ‘Blackmail.’ Use blue eyeliner to draw the letter “C” seven times on your face and go as ‘The Seven Seas.’ Or dress in all pink and carry a feather for a ‘Tickled Pink’ costume.
