What to Wear for Thanksgiving with Your Boyfriend's Family

If you have plans to spend Thanksgiving with your boyfriend's family, you may be wondering what to wear to the momentous occasion. How you dress reflects who you are, and if you are psyched about your boyfriend, you will want his family to like you too! Plus, if you dress in a way that both reflects who you are while also suiting the environment, it will clear both your and your boyfriend's heads to focus on bonding with his family.

Stay Conservative

Being with your boyfriend's family is much different than a night on the town with your guy. The clothes you choose to wear should be less flashy and revealing. Avoiding plunging or low cut necklines and opt for higher neckline. A turtleneck would also be a great option since the weather should have a nice, fall crisp in the air. The same concept goes for your legs as well. If you choose to wear a skirt or dress, keep the length close to the knee or wear leggings underneath. Showing too much skin may send the wrong message, therefore conservative dress is best.

Go Classic

Current fashion trends may not always be the best option for a family gathering. Many trends are only appreciated by other fashionistas and could come across as extreme or edgy. The best styles to stick with are the vintage and classic. Add a little personality with your accessories and you will come across timelessly chic.

Remember It Is Thanksgiving

Keep in mind the entire reason you are all getting together. Thanksgiving signifies the end of autumn, so wear colors that reflect the season. Brown, red, green, and even orange colors are especially nice when worn in earthly and rustic shades. Don't be afraid to wear some vibrant colors, just make sure they are balanced with more neutral tones. In addition, Thanksgiving is usually a bit chilly outside. Wear fabrics that portray warmth such as knits or wools. These materials will not only keep you nice and cozy but they don't wrinkle easily either. Finally, Thanksgiving also means a feast. You may want to avoid choosing an outfit that is already tight or uncomfortable. Instead find something that doesn't cinch your waistband and still allows you room for a slice of pumpkin pie after dinner.

Less Is More

When you are getting ready for Thanksgiving with your boyfriend's family, keep in mind the principle of less is more. Keep you make-up looking natural and minimal. This is not an occasion for smoky eyes. Rather, apply light eye make-up, subtle blush and a soft shade of lip gloss or lipstick. Less is also more when spraying on your fragrance. A sweet and subtle scent that can't be smelt across the room is ideal.

Be Yourself

When all is said and done, you want your boyfriend's family to like you for who you are. Thus, as you apply these guidelines to your holiday attire, don't lose your personality in the process. Find clothing that adheres pretty closely to the aforementioned guidelines and then make sure it is something you feel comfortable in. After all, what you wear does reflect who you are!
