When to Plant Lily Bulbs
If you are planning on planting lilies in your garden, you should know exactly when to plant lily bulbs to ensure that they thrive. Lilies are one of the most beautiful varieties of plants you can grow in your garden, and the iming of planting lily bulbs is critical to their success. They bloom amazing flowers that can appear in virtually any color, ranging from white, to yellow, to pink, to orange, to purple, to red and if grown properly they will grace your garden with beautiful blooms.
As a general rule, you should plant lilies as soon as you purchase lily bulbs. Usually, you will obtain them from a local nursery, but in the digital age, with more and more people buying on the web, it isn't uncommon to rely on an online store to make your purchases. Of course, it will be easier to plant your bulbs immediately when obtained from a local nursery. When you are expecting them delivered through the mail after buying from an online store, you should plant them immediately, as they most likely were in transit at least a day or two.
The best time to plant lilies in general is during a time when the ground is not frozen. However, keep in mind that doing so in late spring will produce your lilies to bloom later in the season. However, after the winter, the plants will reset their blooming time and should do so during the regular standard time.
If by any chance you are unable to plant your lily bulbs immediately upon receiving them, make sure you store them in a cool area that is above 28 degrees Fahrenheit. They should be kept in a dark area as well, as light will cause them to sprout, which will in turn force you to plant them quickly.
When you do plant your lily bulbs, make sure to select a spot in your garden that receives at least half a day's worth of sunlight. Avoid areas that are overly shady, and make sure to keep the soil bed raised and kept slightly moist. This will ensure that your lilies will be their healthiest and most beautiful.
