When to Use Lip Powder

Ladies never tire of finding new and exciting makeup applications, and lip powder has recently climbed the charts in popularity. A powder-based lipstick, it gives a high gloss and shine to the lips and is known for its staying power and high-intensity color. It is an excellent choice for any of the situations below where its particular attributes come in handy.

Application

First, a few tips about application. Because it is a powder, when used alone it can come out streaky and blotchy. To avoid this unwanted effect, apply a layer of lip balm beneath it and it goes on smooth as butter. Also consider the power of the colors; one single bright color can be overwhelming in lip powders. Consider layering two, with a neutral tone on top to tone down the brightness of the color below. A neutral tone is also best for a subtle look that matches anything.

First Date

Who wants to leave the house without looking their best when the objective is to impress? Lip powder will give you that gloss and shine without making you look like a plastic figurine. Better than the gloss lip plumpers on the market, it will give you the same pouty effect without the stickiness. It reduces the stress of wondering if your lipstick is running or melting, especially when eating and drinking. Dabbing that napkin on your mouth might be good etiquette, but it can wipe off lipstick in minutes. Go for the lip powder to rest easy during the date.

Wine Tastings

Because of its lip-locking power, lip powder is an excellent choice for a night out at the winery. Your lips are going to be getting an extra workout with all those sips and swishes, and a normal lipstick will create an unsightly imprint before the second bottle is passed around. If you absolutely must use that one special lipstick that brings you good luck, then simply apply a light coating of lip powder over it in a neutral tone and your lipstick will have as much staying power as the powder.

A Day at the Beach

With summer just around the corner, you will need a lip regimen that includes waterproofing. Lip powder is not only long lasting but waterproof as well. Throw on a layer of a neutral color if you want it to look natural, or match it to your bathing suit. Take a dip to cool off without worrying about melting lipstick and without having to reapply right after you dry off. Summer is for relaxing, not worrying about makeup.

Chapped Lips

Because it is powder based instead of oil and wax like regular lipstick, it allows your lips to breath naturally. With regular lipstick the ingredients prevent your lips from creating the moisture they need, resulting in chapped lips (or making them worse than usual). Applying the base coat of lip balm as is recommend is a double treatment for your lips.

Lip powder is easily found online or in stores like Sephora and are inexpensive; pick up one and give it a try!
