Despite its French name, Comme des Garcons is a high end Japanese fashion brand based in Tokyo. The brand started there in 1969 and grew in popularity in Japan through the 1970s, gaining notoriety for an edgy and grungy look with extremely modern cuts. Today, the brand makes mostly tailored cuts with surprising patterns and angles. While Comme des Garcons does a lot of business out of its retail stores, you can also find the clothing at high end department stores and online retailers. One of the latter is the Canadian store SSENSE, which stocks the youthful Play Comme Des Garcons Cotton Jersey Heart T-Shirt. Selling for $110, this short sleeve crew-neck shirt has the signature Comme Des Garcons heart logo across its center and a smaller heart patch on the berate. The ribbed neck shirt also has tone on tone stitching and is made of 100% cotton. The website YOOX currently sells a great shirt collaboration between Comme Des Garcons and Junya Watanabe, which retails for $728 but sells on the site for just under $300. This silk shirt has a 100% silk body, a straight neckline, short frilly sleeves and a banded hem. The crazy shirt also has an esoteric two tone green pattern that's sure to turn heads. YOOX also sells the Comme Des Garcons sheer short sleeve shirt, a garment that retails for $325 but goes for $145 on the site. The pink sheer polyester shirt has balloon sleeves, a full front button closure, a masculine single chest pocket and organza detailing.
SSENSE also has a great discount Comme Des Garcons coat in the Versatile Double Coat. The black and inkjet two tone coat has a spread collar, long sleeves, back and front storm flaps, an off center five button closure, angled pockets and a built in black leather belt. The Japanese made jacket retails for $2,800, but you can buy it for half price at SSENSE. Bergdorf Goodman also carries a great Comme Des Garcons dress in the Barathea Dress, which it sells for $1,690. This black dress has both front and back darting, a sleeveless body, a round neckline and a cinched waist. The dress is made of a wool and cashmere blend and has a straight skirt as a bottom. Saks Fifth Avenue stocks the brand's Play Wool Cardigan, which it sells at a significant discount for $358. This simple red cardigan has a full button-down front, the red Comme logo on the chest and an entirely wool body. Saks suggests you wear the cardigan with your favorite pair of premium denim jeans or a simple jean skirt. Use caution when purchasing the brand's garments from discount sites, as many of them will refuse returns on heavily discounted items.
