It's not too difficult to find cheap grow lights for indoor plants. There are a lot of choices online, and you can visit your local garden center to check out the bargains. Here are some tips on what to buy and where to find cheap grow lights.

Fluorescent lighting has come a long way in recent years. Of course, you've noticed CFE bulbs appearing alongside regular incandescent bulbs in your grocery store. Years ago, you're only choice were standard two bulb, four foot fluorescent shop lights.

Standard Grow Lights

Probably the best-known "secret" in indoor gardening is that standard T12 fluorescent bulbs make excellent grow lights. The key is to pick bulbs that say cool or cool white. Also, how you position your grow lights is very important. Bulbs that say high output or plus are also an excellent choice. You can grow plants up to 18 to 24 inches with standard fluorescent bulbs. Just make sure the light reaches all the plants. You may need several fixtures to do this.

You can find standard fluorescent bulbs just about anywhere. They're very cheap, and last a long time.

T5 Fluorescents

Higher output T5 fluorescents put out twice as much light as standard bulbs, but are cool to the touch. They accept anywhere from two to eight bulbs. You can find them at Greners.com, HomeHarvest.com and other online retailers. In your area, check out all the local nurseries before buying, as well as hardware stores and some department stores. Be sure to find the best price and buy in bulk if you get a good price. If stored properly, the lights last forever.

LED Grow Lights

LED grow lights have been making an impact in gardening. They put out a lot of light and last a long time. You can find LED grow lights at Hydrogrowled.com, StealthGrow.com and AdvancedLights.com. Of course, check your local retailers. If you find a lower price online, tell them about it. They might match the online price to keep your business.
