Where to Find Synchronized Swimming Classes in New York

Synchronized swimming lessons are not too difficult to locate. New York City is home to plenty of public pools, whether they are part of a YMCA or are simply facets of the community for the public's enjoyment. Classes are important when you want to improve your swimming skills and boost your fitness level in a great, fun manner. New York City YMCA

One of the best places to sign up for synchronized swimming lessons in the New York City area is to visit your local YMCA or YWHA. In particular, the YMCA has three great levels of synchronized swimming lessons for students of all ages that are at the same skill level. The Flying Fish class instructs students on increasing endurance in the water and on improving their strokes while swimming. They learn how to dive off a board and can begin using a snorkel in the water as well as learning how to play wetball and develop their skills. Much of the instruction involves complex synchronized swimming movements that students will soon find to be second nature while in the water. The Shark class enables swimmers to further enhance their synchronized swimming maneuvers, while the Porpoise class focuses on even more in depth skills that even involve rescue efforts.

Manhattan Plaza Health Club

Located in the West Midtown area of New York City, the Manhattan Plaza Health Club is a fantastic place at which to take synchronized swimming classes. Their lessons are collectively known as WaterWorks, which is a team of synchronized swimmers at the facilities. The members of the team hold weekly classes for both members and non-members of the Manhattan Plaza Health Club on Wednesday nights.  There are two levels of the classes for swimmers, with Level II meeting with Level I in the final 15 minutes of the class until a half hour after. The WaterWorks team incorporates great music and choreographed exercises in the water for the most intense synchronized swimming lesson and workout.

Take Me to the Water

Take Me to the Water is a great swim school that was established in 1984. The program specializes in teaching both children and adults in water basics as well as more advanced techniques that involved synchronized swimming. At all levels, safety in the water is taught, and some classes involve special one on one private classes for students who require special individual attention. There are more than 20 locations in the New York City area for learning synchronized swimming at indoor pools. The swim team classes are known as "The Gators" and are offered to kids ranging in ages from six through 14 who already have grasped the basics of swimming techniques that involve strokes. The synchronized swimming comes in as students learn major stroke techniques such as backstroke, freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke. The students of this great class also learn to develop their core control, which is essential when you are in the water. The team will generally meet once or twice per week.
