What Is the Average Amount of Time Parents Spend With Their Children?

As of 2011, mothers spend about 13.5 hours per week with their children, while fathers spend about 7.3 hours per week. Around 33 percent of parents said they didn’t have enough time with their children.

Almost half of the parents said they spent more time with their children than their parents spent with them, while one third spent about the same amount of time with their children as their parents had. The amount of time fathers spent with their children almost tripled in comparison to 1965, when fathers only spent 2.5 hours per week with their children. The amount of time mothers spent with their children increased too, but not as significantly. Mothers in 1965 spent 10.2 hours per week with their children.
